Few things are as pleasing or instill such a feeling of love and calm acceptance than feeling seen by another.
I think there may be a special version of this when you get to witness that for your child. To watch someone see them, know them, “get” them, especially when it’s already a particular, maybe even desperate desire of the heart. Which is now full.
I cherish this so much that I suggest: if you ever see or notice a thing about a child in your sphere, please let them know. Write them a letter or take them aside if it isn’t too weird, and say the words. Don’t just tell their parents, tell the child.
Here are a few examples of that from some middle school teachers, all of whom I give a hearty hug and JenPal salute today.
From the science teacher:
He is a great example to the other students in science class. He is always willing to share his understanding as well as ask thinking questions, helping students understand that science is messy sometimes.

From the English teacher:
Someday, when he is president— of the USA, or some amazing brainy company— I’ll be proud to say, “I knew him when…” I have never ceased to be amazed at what a thoughtful and intelligent kid he is. You must be so proud.
And finally, from the history—and favorite—teacher:
Dear Young Scholar,
It is with great pleasure that I, a humble scribe of Middle-earth, pen this missive to commend your diligent efforts in the realm of academia. Your performance in the halls of learning, much like the journey of a Hobbit, is a testament to your courage and wisdom.
In echoing the words of Gandalf the Gray, “All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us.” You have chosen to wield your time wisely, pursuing knowledge and wisdom with great zeal.
Your scholarly pursuits are akin to the fellowship’s quest to Mordor- a path filled with challenges, but one where your unwavering dedication shines like the light of Earendil, piercing the shadows of ignorance.
In the spirit of Frodo Baggins, you carry a heavy burden, but your determination to overcome obstacles and your eagerness to learn is an inspiration to all!
With the wisdom of Gandalf, the bravery of Aragorn, and the heart of Samwise Gamgee, you are on a path to greatness. Continue on this journey, Young Scholar, for you are destined for remarkable achievements.
May your future be as bright as the Shire, and may your knowledge expand like the vast realms of Middle-earth.
One of the most impactful things anyone has ever said to me was, "you are going to do great things in this world, or there is something seriously wrong with it." I just wish they would have written this so I could keep it forever to remember them and show others how impactful it has been.
BUT, I always hesitate in today's age of itty-bitty electron pushing, how weird and old fashioned someone would find me if I actually WROTE something down with pen and paper! Would my sentiments be quickly dismissed? Placed quickly in the recycle bin?! Or, worse, directly into the trash?! :-O Maybe I should just get past the shame of being perceived as old fashioned and just DO IT!!
