Sean and I were driving through a snowy mountain canyon talking about the winter and whatever other weather-related subject we could think of. The following dialogue took place:
SEAN: We’re real close to beating this thing.
JEN: *laughter*
A pause.
JEN: Wait. Do you mean we’re close to learning how to adapt to winter or completely eradicating it?
SEAN: I guess I meant that we’re almost done with it since we’re so close to March. But completely eradicating it is what it sounded like, ha ha.
JEN: Isn’t that a joke from somewhere? A TV show?
Pause. Much thought.
SEAN: Maybe Jack Donaghy?
JEN: Yeeessss…. about…..
J&S TOGETHER: Periods?
JEN: Yes! With Avery! When she has to go away for a week to have her annual period and it’s just a fenced-in area in the Adirondacks, ha ha.
SEAN: Ha ha ha, yes. “We’re so close to beating that thing completely.” That’s it!
JEN: Ahh thanks for helping me. See, this is why you spend your life with someone. You’re half of my memory bank.
SEAN: That’s what they say you lose when you lose a partner. That couples do a kind of mental energy symbiosis. They divide up certain mental tasks, just naturally, according to the strengths of each individual probably, so you don’t have to use up all your energy.
JEN: Hmm. I wonder what my weird half looks like.
SEAN: You’re the one that remembered there was a joke in the first place.
JEN: True! And you helped me remember the joke. And then we figured it out together.
SEAN: Yeah.
JEN: Yeah. This is good stuff. I want to write this down. Help me remember it, will you?
SEAN: Of course.
Gosh, I gotta watch 30Rock! And you two are hilarious!
I just have to echo your shout out to Suvi-- one of my favorite roommates from all my time at BYU!!!
