Every Once in a While

Every once in a while, I remember my dreams. Like the one I had last night that turned into kind of a nightmare. In the dream, I was telling someone about the most amazing waffles I'd had, that they were so good because they were crunchy on the outside and soft in the middle, and I just went on and on about it. The funny part is when I woke up with a start, heart racing, and immediately shouted in my head to the dream, still half in it,

NO! I love pancakes!  PANCAAAKES! 

When I awoke, I honestly had to shake it off, the feeling like I had betrayed myself. Like I had taken a good hard look in the mirror and didn't recognize what I saw.  *shudder*

Every once in a while I think about the time my friend was telling me about how she has a knack for finding Stanley cups and I thought she meant the hockey trophy rather than the popular insulated water bottle which…I suppose makes more sense.

Not this. What if she had meant this? Now that’s a story. Tell me more…

Every once in a while instead of “if you’re interested,” I type “if you’re interesting,” and it always makes me laugh.

“If you’re interesting… maybe you’ll appreciate what I’m about to say.”

Love the idea and the gall of insulting readers out of nowhere, who have already willfully turned their attention toward you. Unless it’s in an email, in which case it’s just a fun little zinger and possible test to see if they’re paying attention.

Every once in a while I think back to my college days when I took a 2-hr tennis class and then would play for two more hours because I could. Or, play tennis for two hours and then go to my kickboxing step-aerobics class before another class I had in the evening. What in the what? And how in the how.

Every once in a while, as a treat, I think about the time Sean, new to Instagram, was on someone’s account who he did not know well, who had shared a sad, deeply personal story about something going on in their lives and, in his newbie’ness—and not an avid emoji-user—Sean somehow accidentally commented on the post with just the high five and thumbs up emojis. It couldn’t be undone.
